About IP Geolocation

This tool looks up geographic and network information for any IPv4 or IPv6 address. Leave the field blank to look up your own public IP. Results are fetched server-side through our API.

  • Location: Country, region, city, zip code and coordinates
  • Network: ISP, organization and AS number
  • Timezone: The timezone associated with the IP address

Everything shown here is inferred from public registration data and geolocation databases, both of which are approximations. The country is usually right, the city often is not, and neither is a substitute for asking someone where they are. A residential connection normally resolves to the provider rather than the subscriber, and a mobile one can appear hundreds of miles from the handset because the traffic leaves the network at a regional gateway.

Something wrong out at the edge?

A lookup answering from the wrong record, a certificate that expires on a Sunday, a header that gives away more than it should. We look after servers, DNS and the delivery layer, and we set them up so the next surprise is caught before your users find it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the location?
Country level is reliable, city level is not. Geolocation works by mapping ranges to places, and those mappings are updated on the provider's schedule, not in real time. Treat the city as a hint and never as evidence.
Why does it show a different country to where I am?
Usually a VPN, a corporate network that exits somewhere else, or a mobile carrier routing through a regional gateway. It can also be a range that changed hands and has not been remapped in the database yet.
What is an ASN?
The number identifying the network that announces this address range to the rest of the internet. It is the most reliable field here, because it comes from routing rather than from a guess, and it tells you which provider to contact about traffic from that address.
Can I block someone by their address?
You can, and it will work until they get a new one, which for most home connections is a matter of days. Blocking a whole range hits everyone behind it, including people who share it through carrier grade address translation.
Is looking up an address legal?
Yes; this is public registration data. What you do with it is a different question, and in most jurisdictions an address becomes personal data once you combine it with anything else that identifies a person.
